Slated to open in 2021 and provide over 4,000 jobs, the automotive production plant will create the next-generation Toyota Corolla and a soon-to-be-revealed Mazda crossover model, says Made in Alabama. An estimated 300,000 vehicles will be produced annually in the Mazda Toyota joint owned-and-operated facility.
The $1.6 billion production facility is located miles away from a Toyota engine plant and joins three other automobile assembly plants within the state. Huntsville, and the Limestone County region was chosen out of 20 states for its promising growth in the technology, aerospace and manufacturing industries.
Mazda Toyota’s Impact on the Local Economy
Mazda Toyota is expected to bring 4,000 new jobs to the area in 2021, and salaries for these positions will average $50,000. To attract and retain local talent, Mazda Toyota has donated $750,000 to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related programs to motivate and encourage students within the Limestone region to pursue a career in the manufacturing field.
Mazda Toyota has pledged to invest in developing its future workforce through generous donations, training and partnerships with economic development partners throughout the region.
To further expand on opportunities within Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA and the advanced manufacturing industry, Mazda Toyota has donated $500,000 to the Huntsville Madison Chamber Foundation to launch a career exploration online platform to broaden students’ understanding of the job opportunities within the field.
Through this initiative, Limestone County will continue to grow as a destination for business and a highly-educated workforce, aligning with growth expectations of 26.0% within the next ten years.
